The Story I Never Meant to Tell — Until Now
Hi, I’m Gabe.
Years ago, my father made the hardest decision: he sent his only son halfway across the world, from Malaysia to America, hoping I’d find a better future. He died before he ever got to see what became of me.
This book—this memoir—started as a private way for me to survive that grief. I never meant for anyone else to read it. I wrote it to confront the unspoken memories I’ve carried: growing up in a violent home, hiding parts of myself to stay safe, navigating the loneliness of being an immigrant, and learning—slowly—how to live in a world that didn’t always want someone like me.
But the more I wrote, the more I realized:
this isn’t just my story.
It’s for:
- Parents wondering if they made the right choices.
- Children living far from home, searching for belonging.
- People carrying invisible wounds from childhood, culture, or silence.
- Anyone who’s ever asked, “Am I allowed to be who I really am?”
Each chapter is a piece of my life. Some are painful. Some are raw. Some are unexpectedly funny. But all of them are real.

If my story moves you, please consider donating or sharing this campaign. I’m using any support I receive to help cover the **urgent medical costs** of a dear friend in Malaysia. He’s been battling a severe health condition for years—quietly, without complaint, without help. This is my way of giving back to someone who has shown me what true endurance looks like.
This isn’t just about publishing a book. It’s about turning years of pain into something that might help someone else feel less alone—and turning that healing into action.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring.
With love,
Gabe
