My name is Linda Kirwan, to those that do not know me. I was recently fired from my job at the Veterans Affairs (VA). I believe my termination was wrong and unjust, and I went to the EEOC for help.
As many of you know, I am a dedicated and hard worker with any business I have ever worked for. I have always followed the rules throughout my life and have always had an owner's mentality about me.
I come from a father who was a retired Air Force and WW2 veteran. My mother was the hardest working woman I have ever known until I met my mother-in-law, Esther. I am telling you this because of what I came from and who I am. It bothers me that they said these words about me in this letter. More than anything, that hurt me more on the day I was sent home.
I was told when my boss came in on Monday and asked the manager on duty how I took it. She responded that I was blinded by it. Why? I was not after any of their positions. If anything, I stepped on toes when I used to tell them about all the mold. They cared less, but that's the thing—I do care because we have veterans that we serve. They are only there for the paycheck.
They kept me from getting full-time and lied to me about it. I was naive the first time, but the second time it was not going to fly. I asked if they heard anything about the full-time food service worker position and when it would be filled. I asked my Chief that question, and he said, "I do not know because it's HR who picks the employee after we hand back the information from the interview." I asked the Assistant Chief, and she said the same thing. I emailed HR, and we spoke about it, and she said, "Let me clarify for you, HR does not pick the employee for any department; it's the hiring official for that department." I went to my Assistant Chief and asked her politely if I could talk to her, and she said yes. I asked why she and the Chief lied to me about HR picking the person. No comment and just stared at me. I said, "Okay, why not just tell me the truth?" She said, "You have too many write-ups against you." "I do?" I said. "I only have one, and I told you about it the very first day before I started working for you. You all wrote me up on something I am seeing a VA doctor about." Several hours after seeing her, I get a call from community care saying I have an appointment on 8/8 in Nashville to see a neurosurgeon. I said I cannot do that because I work Friday through Monday. They said I can go to that or wait until late December or early January. I emailed my PCP and told her about it, and she said, "I'll write you a letter." That day was 8/5, and I sent that letter and appointment to my Assistant Chief. She said, "Okay." That's all she wrote. I never said a thing other than my PCP knowing that i have herniated disc and most likely have to have my fusion replaced because of pushing the carts. I decided that i could di that when i first started but several months into it i decided to go for an RA. The 1st thing Assistant Chief says to me if you go for qn RA you will get fired. After several months of the RA thinking of what she said what would happen to me if I was or on RA I would get fired.
Friday Drs appointment and Saturdat were long days and it'sa long trip go to work on Sunday and was told I am fired. Now get this: I asked my shift manager if they could make up write-ups on anyone, and she stated she has done it before. My mouth dropped. Did not expect that. This has to be the worst ever hostile work environment I have ever heard of. If there is one thing I come away with, it is to take care of all my co-workers so they don't ever have to go through any of that again.
All I need is $4,000.00, and if, just if, I get more on here, God willing, I will donate it to the Wounded Warriors Project.
To every veteran and service member, thank you, and to my family and friends, no one deserves this.
I've always been committed to serving our country's veterans.
I'm starting this GoFundMe to raise money for a lawyer to fight for my job back. The legal fees are substantial, and I can't do it alone. Any amount you can contribute will make a significant difference and help me seek justice.
Thank you for your support.
Please help me obtain a lawyer. I would go to the lengths of paying every one back. I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH. If you could give one dollar and pass it on to others and ask them to donate a dollar. I Icould reach my goal. To Fight them
Love yo all
