It is with a heavy heart that I share my story of my stage 3 ovarian cancer diagnosis.
I am only 32 years old and this is a rare disease to see at my age. Ovarian cancer is not preventable, you cannot screen for this. Unfortunately, it’s only detected when it is too late. I feel as though it’s my responsibility to bring this to every women’s attention. To bring awareness to this disease. Not to scare but to educate.
On February 10th I was admitted to the hospital due to what the doctors thought was a ruptured cyst. I was extremely bloated that I looked 8 months pregnant. They decided to send me home stating that my body would absorb the fluid and blood but I only was getting worse.
Two days later I decided to get a second opinion at a different hospital. Here is where they discovered that the supposed cyst was actually a leaking tumor. We had no choice but to have surgery, tragically a hysterectomy.
On March 7, 2024 the news came that I had cancer.
This diagnosis has come as a complete shock to my family and I. It has completely rocked our world. My husband and I had an amazing year last year with the purchase of a new home in hopes of growing our family but that opportunity was ripped away from us by this horrible disease. I will no longer be able to carry another baby but I WILL raise and watch my toddler son grow into a young man and a father.
I have started this GoFundMe to help pay for further treatments that will help me fight this cancer and other expenses since I am currently out of work. I leave for treatment in 2 weeks and will be gone for 3 weeks. The treatment, lodging, and food will cost roughly $23,000. The remaining $7,000 goal will help cover bills while I am away. This treatment center that I will be visiting is a reputable cancer center in Mexico that has been giving people a second chance at life for the past 20 years. If you want further information about this center please reach out to me.
I appreciate any help that my family and I receive to help my journey to healing and health.
Thank you and God Bless,
Karina
