Help Me Fight Disability Discrimination in Ontario

Donation protected
I’m fundraising because I’m currently pursuing three Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) cases involving disability discrimination in the healthcare sector.

These cases matter to me personally, but they also speak to a much bigger issue: disabled and immunocompromised people are often denied the accommodations we need to access basic care safely.

What Led Me Here

Over the last couple of years, I requested disability-related accommodations that were medically necessary for me.

Instead of working with me, multiple providers refused to meet those needs, restricted my access, or told me to seek care elsewhere.

This isn’t how healthcare is supposed to work — and it certainly isn’t how human rights law is supposed to work.

As this moves toward mediation (which is where most HRTO cases are resolved), I want to ensure that I’m not walking in alone while large institutions show up with lawyers and risk-management teams.

I want to be prepared, supported, and on equal footing.

Why I’m Asking for Help

I’ve looked into Legal Aid, but unfortunately, I don’t qualify. Legal Aid Ontario determines eligibility using household income rather than the applicant’s actual circumstances.

This leaves many disabled people — especially those living on one limited personal income — without access to representation. I fall into that gap.

Additionally, while the Human Rights Legal Support Centre (HRLSC) provides legal advice and assistance to people in Ontario who have experienced discrimination under the Human Rights Code, they have a heavy caseload, and there is no guarantee that I’ll receive assistance from them.

My Goal & How You Can Help

My GoFundMe goal is $15,000. I’m raising funds to hire a lawyer for mediation at the Tribunal and for the preparation leading up to it.

If by some miracle this goal is achieved — or even exceeded — any funds not used toward legal services will go toward private therapy, which I genuinely need to manage the stress, trauma, and exhaustion that come with navigating this kind of discrimination and the legal process that follows.

I’m committed to seeing this through — not only for myself, but for others who face the same barriers and lack the capacity to take this on.

With Gratitude

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

This has been a long, exhausting fight — one that’s taken a real toll on my body and mind — but I’m still here, still standing, and still determined to see it through.

I’m sharing this not just for myself, but because I know so many disabled and immunocompromised people are being pushed out of care in quiet, painful ways.

If my story helps even a little to expose that pattern, then it’s worth it.

I’m deeply grateful for any help you can offer — whether that’s donating, sharing this campaign, or just sending a kind message of support.

Even a few dollars or a quick share truly helps more than you might think. For anyone who prefers to donate directly and avoid platform fees, please don't hesitate to contact me privately.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in me and in what this fight represents.
