Help me evacuate Dr. Hatim and his family from Gaza

My name is Hani Mowafi and I'm an emergency physician and global health specialist at Yale University. I'm working to help evacuate my friend and colleague Dr. Hatim from Gaza.

I have worked with Dr. Hatim for years on projects to improve the quality and access to emergency care in Gaza through projects with the World Health Organization and the World Bank. The current war has destroyed his work and his home. He is currently displaced with his family. I have managed to secure support to fund a position for him, as well as the cost of his travel. All that is left is the high cost of coordination fees that must be paid for Gazans to cross into Egypt. This is estimated at more than $5000 per adult and $2500 per child. He needs to be able to enter Egypt to be safe and to be able to get his VISA as there is no way to get it from Gaza. Can you help us cross this last hurdle?

Nowhere left to go

After training abroad in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Hatim turned down offers to work internationally to return to Gaza to care for his community. He was the first board certified Emergency Physician and went to work caring for patients and training others at the largest hospital in Gaza. He has been an essential resource for training and development. He has been at the frontlines of the emergency health response in each of the past wars on Gaza. In this war, Dr. Hatim's home was destroyed and now his hospital has also been decimated by attacks. Dr. Hatim and his family have been driven from their home and shelter multiple times while his wife was 9 months pregnant. His youngest daughter was just born this month and God knows the conditions into which she is entering this world!

They count their blessings for having a tent for shelter. Many others don't even have that.

Can you help get them to safety?

The Plan

I have already secured funding for his position to be able to support himself and his family. We have already secured funding to support his onward travel to the USA. These funds will be used to arrange for coordination, crossing out of Rafah, and transport for Dr. Hatim and his family.It is only this last expense that must be paid in person for which we are fundraising.

I will personally travel to Egypt (on my own expense not from donations) to ensure that 100% of these funds are delivered to the agency coordinating Palestinians crossing from Gaza. If for any reason this effort is unsuccessful I will personally refund your donation to you.

There is so much need all over the world and I know that each of you have committed to helping alleviate suffering in your own ways. I know this family and am doing my best to help them survive this horror. Dr. Hatim is committed to returning to help rebuild Gaza but for now just needs his family to be safe.
