Help Me Empower Refugee Youth in Nakivale, Uganda

Hi everyone,

Next summer, I’ll return to Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, where I once called home. This trip is more than a visit; it’s a mission to give back and inspire the next generation of refugee youth through a powerful initiative, The Illustrated Memoir Project.

Through Maketank Inc., a nonprofit that believes individual stories can change the world, I’ll lead a creative workshop to help young people write and illustrate true stories from their lives.

This project is designed to create intellectual self-trust, center their unique lived experiences, and enhance social and emotional learning.

By empowering refugee and immigrant youth to become the authors of their own stories, we hope to nurture their confidence, creativity, and potential for academic and personal success. Sharing these stories also creates global understanding, helping to build a more welcoming and compassionate world.

As I prepare for this journey, I am raising funds to provide many incredible students in the camp with essential school supplies—things like notebooks, pencils, pens, backpacks, and more. These items may seem small, but I know from experience how much they mean. Growing up in Uganda, my parents sometimes couldn’t afford basic school supplies, and I remember how difficult it was to keep up in school. I know what it feels like to want to learn and grow but not have the tools to do so. That’s why this mission is deeply personal to me, and I’m giving my all to ensure these students have what they need to succeed
