Help me do a research stay at The Rockefeller University!

Hello!

My name is Ilse De la Rosa. I was admitted in the Chemers Neustein Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program at The Rockefeller University (NYC, USA) which receives more than 700 applicants from all over the world.

From June 2nd to August 8th, 2025, I will be conducting research at the Laboratory of Virology and Infectious Disease, led by Dr. Charles Rice, Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine 2020.

About me:

I am a fourth-year student of the bachelor's degree of Clinical and Biological Chemistry at the School of Medicine, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. I currently study the molecular mechanisms by which Hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes cellular carcinoma. I’m passionate about expanding STEM access for young students. For three years, I’ve volunteered with Clubes de Ciencia México in Monterrey, leading summer workshops alongside researchers from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Why does this cause matter?

By getting hands-on experience at Rice Lab, leader in HCV research, I can deepen my knowledge in this field and contribute to find alternatives to treat and prevent Hepatitis C's outcomes in the future. Additionally, this will allow me to share my experience with other students who are seeking STEM opportunities, and help them get into an international one.

Every contribution will be directed toward covering visa application fees ($185), SEVIS fee ($160), travel expenses, and other living costs, which are not funded by the program.

¡Hola!

Mi nombre es Ilse De la Rosa. Fui aceptada en el programa Chemers Neustein Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) de The Rockefeller University (Nueva York, EE.UU.), el cual recibe más de 700 postulaciones de todo el mundo.

Del 2 de junio al 8 de agosto de 2025, realizaré investigación en el Laboratorio de Virología y Enfermedades Infecciosas, dirigido por el Dr. Charles Rice, Premio Nobel de Fisiología o Medicina 2020.

Sobre mí:

Soy estudiante de cuarto año de la licenciatura en Químico Clínico Biólogo en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Actualmente estudio los mecanismos moleculares por los cuales el virus de la hepatitis C (VHC) causa carcinoma hepatocelular.

También me apasiona ampliar el acceso a oportunidades STEM para jóvenes. Desde hace tres años, soy voluntaria en Clubes de Ciencia México en Monterrey, donde imparto talleres de verano junto a investigadores de EE.UU., Canadá y México.

¿Por qué es importante esta causa?

Realizar una estancia en el Rice Lab, líder en investigación sobre el VHC, me permitirá profundizar en este campo y contribuir al desarrollo de alternativas para tratar y prevenir las complicaciones de esta enfermedad. Además, podré compartir mi experiencia con otros estudiantes en México que buscan oportunidades en STEM y apoyarlos en su camino.

Tu apoyo, sin importar la cantidad, hará una gran diferencia para ayudarme a cubrir los gastos esenciales de mi estancia en The Rockefeller University. Cada contribución se destinará directamente a cubrir las tarifa de solicitud de visa J-1 ($185 USD), la tarifa SEVIS ($160 USD), gastos de viaje y otros costos de vida, los cuales no son cubiertos por el programa.
