Support My ALS Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Allison Hopkins, and I have recently been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease and Motor Neuron Disease. There is no known cure, but there have been more than 40 documented reversals, and I aim to be one of them. My goal is to stop the disease progression, or at least slow it down.
Currently, I am experiencing weakness in my feet, legs and hands that cause trouble walking, climbing stairs, getting dressed, cooking, cleaning and completing other tasks of daily life. Everything takes a long time, including typing this! As an athlete who loved alpine skiing (racing and backcountry touring), road and mountain biking, and hiking, becoming disabled has been devastating for me. My motivation includes wanting to live to see my youngest sons get married, and my grandchildren (one pictured in my photo) grow up.
Some of the treatments I plan to pursue are not covered by insurance. These include alternative medicine and therapies not approved yet in the U.S. but showing promise elsewhere, vitamins, supplements and supportive treatments like massage, acupuncture, and energy work. I also need to make my home more suitable for my disability. The amount I am seeking won't cover everything, but it will help a lot.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donation.
