Help Me Create a Bilingual Classroom for My 2nd Graders ❤️

Hello everyone! My name is Yenny Borjas, and I’m an educator with 4 years of experience teaching kindergarten. This upcoming school year, I’m beginning a brand new chapter, I’ll be teaching bilingual 2nd grade for the very first time!

This is an exciting and meaningful step for me. As someone who grew up in a Spanish-speaking household and once sat in a classroom not knowing a word of English, I know firsthand how important it is for students to feel supported and seen in their learning environment. I had amazing bilingual teachers who helped me grow, and now I’m honored to pay it forward.

However, this transition means I’m starting from scratch. My current materials, bulletin boards, signage, classroom decor, and books — are designed for younger students and in English only. My new class will consist of older children who are native Spanish speakers, so I need to build a space that is not only age-appropriate but also language-accessible, cozy, and welcoming.
