Help Me Cover Chest Surgery Medical Costs

Hi friends, I've been really fortunate to get access to a gender-affirming chest surgery at the end of May. I have a formal diagnosis of chest dysphoria, but - because I don't have private medical insurance - the out-of-pocket expenses for this surgery will be about $12,500. As such, I'm hoping to crowdfund some of these medical expenses on gofundme.

 

Why is this so important to me? I've experienced a lot of chest dysphoria since realising my gender identity is trans-nonbinary/genderqueer. This means when I see my chest in the mirror, I get really uncomfortable because it doesn't feel like me. I generally hunch my shoulders and for the past 6-8 months, most days I wear a chest binder - a tight singlet-type piece of clothing that makes my chest flatter. The binder is awesome but it can be really uncomfortable and painful after long periods of wear. I've also noticed that I have been choosing not to do some of the things I love because I don't feel comfortable in my body. For example, I usually LOVE going to the beach but almost completely avoided going last summer.

When I found out I could access a surgery that would take all of this daily pain and discomfort away, I was SO excited! And when I found out that surgery could be possible in just over a month's time, a wave of peace and freedom swept over me. I think about being post-operation and it fills me with so. much. joy! I can't wait to live my life without feeling weighed down all the time by this dysphoria.
