My name is Amal, a Palestinian mother from Gaza and a mother to two young children who are all I have left in this life. We were a simple family dreaming of a decent life despite the difficult circumstances surrounding us. But our dreams were shattered day by day, until I reached a point where I could no longer comprehend what had happened to us.
My husband was the pillar of our home, a patient man despite his pain. His suffering began when he fell seriously ill. We tried to treat him, but in Gaza, proper medical care is scarce, and medicines are hard to come by. His condition worsened to the point where doctors had to amputate his leg, and soon after, he developed kidney failure. I watched him wither before my eyes, powerless to save him. I wasn’t just losing my husband; I was losing my sense of security, my support, and everything beautiful in our lives. Then came the day he left us forever, leaving us alone in this harsh world.
But tragedies rarely come alone. As I was trying to cope with my loss, our home in Gaza was destroyed in an airstrike, along with all our memories and small dreams. It wasn’t just a house; it was a safe haven for me and my children. Along with it, our only source of income was also destroyed, leaving me suddenly faced with a harsh reality: no shelter, no income, and no husband to ease the pain.
I fled to Egypt with my children, carrying a small bag filled with sorrow and memories. But life here is far from easy. Every day, I face new challenges, from meeting daily needs to struggling with rent that weighs heavily on me, to the growing expenses of my children’s education. I don’t know how to explain to them why we suddenly became homeless, fatherless, and insecure.
Today, I find myself reaching out to kind-hearted people who might have the ability to help and stand by me in these difficult times. Your support, no matter how small, can make a world of difference for me and my children. Whether it’s helping with daily needs, rent, or educational expenses, your compassion can restore hope to our broken lives. I deeply appreciate your humanity and generosity, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering extending your support to us. Together, we can rebuild a brighter future for my children.
