Hi, I’m Subrat Sahoo.

I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but right now I’m out of time and out of options—and I’m asking for help.

I completed high school at Singapore International School, Mumbai, where I earned University of Cambridge IGCSE grades Aa in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (June 2015). I also hold a Cambridge English (CAE) certificate—Level C1—with an overall score of 195 (Grade B). Academically, I graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics from the University of Delhi with a CGPA of 8.30. I came to the U.S. to pursue my MS in Physics at Brown University, with the long-term goal of earning a Physics Ph.D. and becoming a researcher in Quantum Physics.

My parents believed in that dream enough to take a huge leap: they took a $75,000 education loan for me.

Then 2023 hit us hard. My little sister got seriously sick back home in India. Suddenly, my family had to choose between her medical care and supporting my education and living costs in the U.S. They chose her health (and I would’ve made the same choice every time). But that meant I couldn’t keep up with my monthly Brown graduate housing fees, and those charges built up on my student account—this is the main reason my past-due balance grew to where it is now.

Because of that balance, Brown canceled my enrollment before my third semester, and I’ve been trying to fight my way back ever since.

Now I’m stuck in a painful loop:
* I have a $12,000 past-due balance that blocks me from re-enrolling.
* If I can’t re-enroll, I can’t continue my training and research path toward a Ph.D. and a career in Quantum Physics.
* My F-1 visa expires on August 7, 2027. That’s my hard deadline.

So I’m raising $55,000 to get my education back on track.

This will help me:
* Clear the $12,000 university balance immediately so I can re-enroll.
* Cover essential education-related and stability costs during the re-enrollment transition so I can stay enrolled and keep moving forward.

I want to be transparent: I’ve been actively trying all possible resources along with applying for jobs, but it hasn’t been enough to clear my due balance, so I started this crowdfunding campaign three months ago as a last resort to get back to school.

I will post updates when I will get re-enrolled.

If you can donate, thank you. If you can’t, sharing this link is a huge help. Either way, you’re helping me keep my education—and my future in research—alive.

Sincerely,
Subrat Sahoo
