About Me:

Hi, my name is Becky, and I never thought I’d be here writing this—but life had other plans. Just over two years ago, I went into kidney failure, and it has completely changed my life. I’ve been seriously unwell, and the journey has been incredibly tough, forcing me to give up work and deplete my savings to stay afloat.

Despite these struggles, I’ve tried to make the most of the time when I’ve felt well enough—choosing to invest in my future by studying for my LLM and preparing for my solicitors exams. But as you can imagine, pursuing legal education isn’t cheap, and balancing medical challenges with financial strain has made this journey even harder.

My Journey:

I never imagined my life would change so drastically. For years, diabetes had silently damaged my kidneys, but the real turning point came when doctors noticed protein in my urine and high blood pressure—which only made things worse.

Then came the blessing and challenge of a lifetime—pregnancy. My little boy is my world, but carrying him while battling uncontrollable blood sugars and high blood pressure caused severe complications. At 33+6 weeks, doctors made the difficult decision to perform an emergency c-section to keep us both alive.

After his birth, things spiraled—and fast. My symptoms worsened dramatically, and I was rushed into emergency dialysis with a line placed in my neck for immediate access. Since then, dialysis has kept me going, but I am still seriously unwell. It has stolen precious moments with my baby boy, moments I will never get back.
