Help Me Continue Living My Dream in London

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

My name is Mátyás Ujvári, and I am studying at the Urdang Academy in London on the Professional Dance and Musical Theatre program. I’m about to begin my second year of training, and I truly feel that I am where I belong: I’m living my childhood dream at a school that is among the world’s elite. All my teachers are active professionals working in the industry – either on the West End or in film. The acceptance rate for this university is about 13%, and I am the first Hungarian student ever admitted to this program.

Unfortunately, the financing of my studies has recently reached a crisis point. Up until now, my expenses have been covered by my father, alongside support from the National Incubator House Foundation and Central Media Group. Last June, I applied for – and was awarded – the university’s international student scholarship, which allowed me to pay only half of the tuition for my first year. Sadly, this scholarship is only available to first-year students.

In December, my father fell ill and was hospitalized. Although he was able to return to work in March, his illness has left him only able to work half as much as before, and he is no longer able to cover the costs of my tuition and living expenses. My mother’s income is enough to support our family’s daily needs, but she cannot financially support my studies.

I was selected by the university to work as a student ambassador and continue to actively seek scholarship opportunities. I applied for Stipendium Peregrinum, a scholarship program announced by the Hungarian government that could have covered all my expenses. Unfortunately, I did not meet one of its criteria: only students preparing to start their studies can apply, not second-year students. This scholarship was not available last year, so I couldn’t have applied for it then either. Arts education seems to receive limited financial support in Hungary, and due to Brexit, I am not eligible for either Hungarian or British student loans – though I would gladly take advantage of either if it were possible.

Many of my friends have encouraged me to start a crowdfunding campaign, as they would like to support me. I find this incredibly moving, as it might give me the chance to continue my studies in September and pursue my dreams. To do this, I need a total of £34,440 for the next academic year (tuition: £20,760/year; rent: £1,140/month), by August 31st.

I would be deeply grateful if you could support me in any way – even just by sharing this message – to help cover the costs of my education and the realization of my dream.
