Help Samantha Mixon fight Terminal Cancer

Hi, my name is Samantha and I’m fundraising for myself. I know it may seem selfish, but I have stage four lung cancer and have been living with it for 12 years. It’s been a financial struggle. Every time I feel like I’m catching up, I fall back. SSDI does not help a single mom, especially with a kid in college. God bless you all and thank you for just taking the time to read.
I had no idea non smokers could get lung cancer. So when I was diagnosed at 33 as a non smoker, single mom, with Mets to the brain, I was shocked and devastated.
Every three months I go for scans and pay $275 for a co-pay and $50 for the doctor co-pay. Now I’m having issues with my arm and neck.
The medication has caused moderate degenerative disc disease and injuries are worse. I now have a slap tear in my shoulder, I’m getting shots for it but it keeps hurting still. Therefore, I may have to have surgery and this is completely non-cancer related.
I can’t afford to pay my bills and constantly getting collection calls and sometimes the hospitals won’t book my appointments until I pay a certain amount. I’m living off credit cards. I’m on Social Security disability and I receive $2000 a month. How is one person supposed to live off of that when that is the price of rent now!?
I had a stroke in 2020 and I’m still paying Baptist hospital. That is how far behind I am on my medical bills. I learned how to walk again and all of this happened when my daughter was a sophomore in high school.
God has blessed me so much because I was only supposed to live a year and that was in 2012. However, I’m still here and I got to see my baby girl go to college. My next goal is to see her graduate and maybe one day be lucky enough to see my grandchildren.
My father used to throw me fundraisers in Atlanta occasionally. The last one he did was in 2018. Unfortunately, my dad, my biggest advocate and best friend, passed away in 2021.
I moved here from Saint Simons because I found a place more affordable here in Jacksonville. I don’t like to burden people and I hate asking for help.
I do love helping others, so if anyone has Lung Cancer and wants someone with them that understands the ins and outs and genomes, I would definitely go to a doctors appointment with you and ask the questions that you didn’t know to ask. You can see my blog so you can see how far I’ve come.
I don’t know anyone here yet but I am hoping to meet some people through church. Any amount helps and God bless you all. And if any of you ever need anything from me in return, please don’t be afraid to ask.
And feel free to Google me. I used to be a starch advocate but slowly stopped because I couldn’t take my friends dying constantly.
Thank you again!
samantha
I need to update my blog by the way. I’ve had 5 strokes but have recovered from them all. I can’t imagine leaving my daughter. She still needs me and there is nothing in the world I would not do for her. Thanking God every day. Because of Him I can face tomorrow, I’m living for Him.
