I am currently working toward my PhD, focusing my dissertation on the origin, function, and meaning of Nyabinghi drumming. This research is deeply important to me, as it explores the history of a rich cultural tradition rooted in East Africa. I aim to shed light on the significance of Nyabinghi for those who practice it. Though I have faced many obstacles on this journey, I am committed to producing work that honors the history and divinity that is at the heart of Nyabinghi drumming. This project represents the first comprehensive study of Nyabinghi, following it from its roots in Southwest Uganda to its 20th-century iteration in Jamaica among the Rastafari.

As I approach the final stages of my dissertation, I am facing significant expenses related to fieldwork. To complete my research, I need to travel to interview key participants and document their experiences. This requires purchasing equipment such as a microphone and camera to ensure I can capture high-quality audio and video.
