Hello! My name is Na’ilah, and I’m an in-state, first-generation graduate student pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW). Walking this path feels like one of my inner teen’s wildest dreams come true as I never imagined I’d make it this far. But through faith, resilience, and a deep love for learning, I did. Graduating from undergrad was one of the proudest moments of my life, and now, I’m determined to take the next step.
I’ve always felt called to walk in the vision God has placed over my life, one that centers on service, healing, and building a better world for myself and those around me. This degree isn’t just for me; it’s for the communities I hope to serve, the lives I hope to uplift, and the systems I hope to change.
In undergrad, I was deeply involved on campus, despite COVID-19 limiting some opportunities. I worked hard, earned scholarships, and served as a Resident Assistant to keep costs down. But this time, I don’t have the same resources. My mother is a widow, and I’ve largely navigated my educational journey alone. And, unfortunately, financial burden of continuing my education is too heavy to handle on my own. My fall semester tuition is $9,000. The first half is due by the end of August, and the second half by October. I’ve applied for scholarships, grants, and Graduate Assistantships but I’ve come up short. I even reached out to my school for support, only to learn that most aid is reserved for undergraduate students.
As someone who doesn't easily ask for help, this is incredibly difficult for me.. I’ve worked hard to overcome financial barriers in the past through scholarships and by serving as a Resident Assistant during undergrad. But, I don’t have those same resources this time. My mother is a widow, and I’ve largely navigated my educational journey on my own. I don’t seek handouts; I seek opportunity and the chance to fulfill my purpose and serve others through this profession.
If I cannot pay this bill, I risk being dropped from the program entirely. I refuse to give up on this dream, and that’s why I’m turning to my community—my village—for support. Every single dollar helps, and every bit of generosity brings me one step closer to walking across the graduation stage and into the communities that need me.
Thank you for reading this, for considering donating, and for believing in the vision with me. I pray I can soon send out updates saying, “Thank you for helping me accomplish this goal!”
With all my heart, thank you, and God bless.
— Na’ilah
