Hi, my name is Rachel and I am fundraising to exhibit and showcase my series Repainting History. This series is about changing the narrative of art history. Throughout art history, the male gaze is overrepresented: women are often sexualized and objectified. This does something to the way we see ourselves, eachother and the world. I paint historical, mythological and contemporary narratives again, but from a different perspective: the female gaze. In my work, women become human beings, tell their own narratives and shape their own story.

In the artworld, getting work out there is expensive. It is not uncommon to have to pay a fee to exhibit work, submit for prices or have articles placed in a newsletter. Unfortunately, museums pay all of their staff, except for their artists. (weird, isn't it?)

I want to get my work out there so I can share a story and in doing so, change the narrative. Independent platforms and exhibition spaces can give the space to do so, but this means I have to cover all the expenses. This can be PR, printing posters, travelling from and to the exhibition, transportation and packaging of the works to transport them safely, fees to submit work to exhibitions.
