Right now, I’m in Sri Lanka spending the last month of my trip volunteering at Animal SOS Sri Lanka — the second biggest dog sanctuary in the world. This place is home to 2,215 rescued dogs. For comparison, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in the UK cares for an average of 240 dogs across all three of their centres.
This sanctuary is very close to my heart. Every single day, I work on the ground, leading the bathing and care for some of the most vulnerable residents — 500 severely disabled dogs. These are the survivors:
• Dogs who have been shot.
• Dogs run over by cars and tuk-tuks.
• Dogs brutally attacked by villagers — sometimes even children, encouraged by adults.
• Dogs beaten with metal bars, stoned, and left for dead.
Some were even found after villagers dug graves for them. Yet somehow, they survived.
These dogs have missing limbs, deep wounds, and lifelong disabilities. They require daily washing, gentle handling, and proper medical care to keep them comfortable. But right now, we simply don’t have enough basic supplies to give them the dignity and relief they deserve.
I’ve placed an urgent order for essentials — clippers, blankets, dog carts, and towels — just enough to give them some comfort and make my work possible. The cost for everything is £450.
For the price of a few coffees or a night out, you can help bring warmth, relief, and care to a dog who’s already been through more than any animal ever should.
Every pound you give will go directly to supplies that I will personally use here on the ground, every day, to care for these incredible survivors.
