Help me buy my next batch of wool for local yarn
Hi I'm Lisa Heinz and I'm the founder of Southeast Ohio Fiberworks of Athens, Ohio. The llama that joined me for my picture is located with a herd south of me. She has nice fiber that is gorgeous to touch!
I love fiber in all its forms, but for this project, I'm focused on Jacob sheep. The handsome ram in the picture below is a great example of the sheep in this flock, located in Washington County, Ohio.
It is shearing season right now and I need help to pay for shearing the Jacob flock. The cost for this clip will be around $800, which I will use to pay the shearers for their hard work.
The wool will become the next batch of Jacob wool yarn, a product line that I'm trying to get off the ground. I would be grateful if you could help me bring this wool to market by helping me pay the shearers, which let's me keep the wool in this case.
I am trying to do my part to move our textile economy toward sustainability, which means re-establishing the location and quality of our wool supply. This will allow us to move toward using natural materials to make our clothes and other textiles. Once we have enough wool in the pipeline, sales of the yarn made from it will continue to support the next batch of yarn.
Check out this handsome freshly shorn ram!
