Help me buy an electric mobility aid

My Condition

Back in November 2019, at the age of 28 I was diagnosed with HNPP (Herediatry Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsies). It’s a rare disease which affects the nerves in my body. I am unable to produce the special coating my nerves need to keep safe from nerve damage. Not everyone experiences life limiting symptoms however others aren’t so lucky. The disease is progressive and there is currently no cure, only very strong specialist pain killers.

How does my disease affect me

Since being diagnosed after experiencing numbness in my hands and legs 7 months ago my symptoms have progressed rapidly where I am in chronic pain everyday. Simple activities like sitting down, writing and cooking food can be problematic for me. I have to make sure Idon’t cross my legs, lift anything heavy (this could be a mug of tea for me!) or walk too far. However I can live with all this, despite it meaning I have to change the way I do things and using my husband for help. 

How will your donations help me

As my disease has progressed (I’ve been one of the unlucky ones), my legs have become affected. I can no longer walk without feeling pain or my legs giving up from underneath me. I am unable to use any hand aids such as a self propelled wheel chair or crutches as the pressure on my wrists will cause more nerve damage which can irreparable in this condition. 

I still work and would love to continue to do so as it’s mentally good for me, and I have a 1 year old daughter. My mobility becoming affected has been a huge blow for me and extremely emotional to come to terms with, whilst I may have some good days, my bad days will always happen if I don’t start to look after my legs, which means walking no more than 15/20 metres. This becomes impossible with a baby and the need to work. It also takes my independence away from me. 

Having enough money to buy a collapsible electric scooter or wheelchair would mean I could still join my family on walks, I can still get around with my daughter on the days I am on my own at home and protect my legs and feet at the same time.
