I’m raising funds to turn Transit Chaser into a proper iPhone and Android app. The goal is that you won’t even need to keep the app open, Transit Chaser could run in the background and alert you when a potential aircraft transit is coming up.

A few years ago, whenever I heard a plane overhead, I’d run outside with my camera and hope I got lucky. I could spend hours waiting for a plane to cross the Sun or Moon, and most of the time nothing happened.

So I started building a tool for myself.

That eventually became Transit Chaser. A free web app that uses live ADS-B aircraft data, astronomy and location information to help photographers and aviation enthusiasts predict aircraft transits across the Sun and Moon.

I originally never expected anyone else to use it, but after sharing it online, a community slowly started growing around it. People now use Transit Chaser around the world, share their captures in our community gallery, and I’ve got ambassadors helping spread the word.

I’m still developing the whole thing independently and usually updating it every week. I really want to keep Transit Chaser free for everyone, but hosting, development, testing and now building the mobile apps all cost money.

Anything raised here will go towards keeping Transit Chaser running and helping me develop the iPhone and Android versions.
