Hello! I'm Roo. It all feels a bit odd having to advocate for yourself in 100 words but I'll give it my best go. I'm a young performer/writer/comedy lady doing everything in my being to bring my one-woman show 'I Think I Hate Actors' to Edinburgh Fringe this summer. This is something I set my heart on when I was little, after realising my one-woman performances didn't have to be restricted to my lounge with an audience of solely my mum (not that she isn't still my favourite audience member). I did a comedy degree at University and have spent my year post-grad utterly pouring over every detail of this show, re-writing and re-writing, rehearsing at any opportunity and performing it in any space that my minimum-wage pay check would allow. To put it frankly, this industry is really hard (which is actually what the show is about). It's expensive and demanding and exhausting and unfair at times but makes me so unbelievably happy too. Having this show at Fringe would simply mean so much to me, but I will definitely need some (quite a bit) of help as I'm not quite ready to sell an organ or two just yet, which is why I have made this page. 'Roo Sutcliffe has trained all her life to become an actor, and has come to the unfortunate realisation that all actors are wankers, perhaps. In this ironic yet passionate display, Roo expresses her disdain for theatre through the distinctive medium of theatre. It’s time the industry (that she so desperately wants to be in) gets called out for what it is. And Roo will, of course, call it out using her diaphragm.'
