My name is Jessica, and I am reaching out for help during one of the most challenging times of my life. Recently, I lost custody of my 9-year-old daughter after experiencing a moment of mental crisis. Recognizing that I needed support, I called her father to pick her up, hoping to keep her safe while I sought help. Instead, he used my vulnerability as an opportunity to file for emergency custody and stop child support payments. The police were called to my home, and I was taken to the hospital, but I was released the same day after doctors and psychologists determined I did not need inpatient care. It turned out that I had tried to wean off of my SSRI’s too quickly, but after consulting with my psychiatrist and adjusting my dosage, I am now completely back to my normal self.

Since then, my daughter has been living with her father, who continues to ignore my repeated concerns about her severe cat allergy. He promised to remove the cat from the home, but every time I speak with my daughter, I see her eyes swollen from the constant exposure. As someone with lupus and a child who has battled autoimmune disease, I know how dangerous it is for her to be in a state of ongoing inflammation. Her father’s actions seem motivated by revenge rather than concern for her well-being, and I am terrified for her health.

I am seeking help to hire a lawyer who can represent me in court and file an emergency hearing before our scheduled date in January. Without legal representation, I am at a significant disadvantage, as her father already has a lawyer fighting against me. I cannot do this alone, and I am asking for your help to give my daughter the chance to return to a safe and healthy environment. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my story and to those who find it in their heart to help. My kids mean the world to me, and I will be forever grateful for your support.
