Please Help Me Bring My Dad Back To Life

This is the most difficult piece I have ever written, but I do so for the greatest person in my life - my father. He is the greatest father in the world, and I cannot express the admiration and the love I have for him as my father and as my best friend. And with the help of the kindness of my community, I want to help make his wish a reality.

 

My father worked since the age of 14 to support his family, following the passing of his father, and then to support his family, us, a family of five children. Never in his life did he seek help, not when he and my mother were exiled from Kuwait during the Gulf War, not when he arrived to the USA, not when he finally established a business (only for a natural disaster to strike and destroy everything) and not when he became a truck driver for years and years on end to support us, despite having a stroke in 2016.

 

In the dreaded year of 2020, he was very, very sick, but God smiled on my family, and he had a triple bypass surgery to correct his heart. The physical recovery was difficult, but the emotional recovery was a completely different matter. Here was my father, a once Superman-like human being, relegated to staying at home, and feeling like nothing because he cannot do the things he did before the surgery. I have tried to tell him how he is the same man to me, how I love him regardless, but as Dave Chappelle once said, "Taking a man's livelihood away is akin to killing him." The surgery saved my father's life physically, but emotionally he is not the same. He was once the patriarch of his family, respected by all, but he is more or less feeling directionless now, despite still being the greatest person in the world. Every morning, he is awake at the crack of dawn to make me a sandwich and a cup of tea, he cooks homemade French fries, he fills my gas tank every week, and he will listen to me for hours and hours on end, and most importantly, he will always cheer me up if I am sad with a good old "dad" joke. 

 

I am fundraising today to ask for help in bringing my father back to life, to the life he was living before the surgery, one with a livelihood so he can feel alive. His lifelong dream is to own a business once again. He is a businessman at heart, and he would like to open a truck lot in Houston. Opening a truck lot would not only allow him to help his fellow truck driver, and remain connected to his former work, but it is a job which would not require as intense physical labor as being a truck driver. I have worked three jobs since 2016 to save as much as I possibly can so I can help him to achieve his dream, but I need help, and I know how amazing this community is, and I hope this community will be able to help me, help my father. I am hopeful for a plot of land in the Houston-area which would be perfect for his business, but I need a little bit of help with the sizeable down payment. I will forever support my father, but I know as a man, the kind of man who is a provider, his heart is broken every morning as I drive off to work and he is left behind.
