A dream of creating through nature, movement and film.
My name is Ola Hasia. I’m a movement artist, teacher and filmmaker the heart of Blue Motion based and living in Ukraine. For almost 20 years I have been exploring movement, improvisation and contact improvisation, as well as our relationship with water and the body.
Because our international team is based across borders, and to ensure smooth and secure payment processing through the platform's supported regions, this campaign is organized in collaboration with Ruben Gepner.
Ruben is a core part of our team, has been a somatic freediving facilitator for this project for two years, and is managing the financial backend from France.
Over the years, I’ve been dreaming of creating a space where artists can step outside the familiar, reconnect with nature, and discover new ways of creating together. A space where you don’t have to begin with a finished idea.
- Where an image that appears underwater can become the beginning of a film.
- Where movement can become a story.
- Where the desert can become part of the narrative.
- Where sound, silence, the body, the landscape and the camera can all become creative tools.
This dream became Blue Motion.
What is Blue Motion?
Blue Motion is a 21-day international artistic residency and educational program in Dahab, Egypt. It brings together participants and seven experienced teachers, facilitators, and artists for an intensive journey through somatic freediving, water dance, embodied filmmaking, storytelling, sound, and editing. We invite seven teachers who come from different artistic and movement practices, each bringing their own methodology:
- Daniel Rojasanta - Water Dance Facilitator & Embodiment Practices | Colombia
- Christina Amundsen - Film Director | Denmark
- Ruben Gepner - Freediving & Water Dance Facilitator | France
- Maya Ponce - Artist, choreographer, director, and filmmaker | Ecuador
- Daniel Benecke - Freediving Facilitator & Underwater Photographer | Germany
- Damla Ozcelik - Freediving & Water Dance Facilitator | Turkey
- Amanda Roth - Embodied Camera Facilitator | Sweden
The residency is built around a simple question:
How do we move from an experience to an image, from an image to a story, and from a story to a film?
Rather than teaching one fixed method, we will explore many different approaches to creativity. About half of the program is dedicated to learning:
- Water & Body: Working with somatic freediving and water dance — exploring breath, movement, and the unique possibilities of being underwater.
- Embodied Filmmaking: Using the camera not only as a recording tool, but as an extension of the body through improvisation, perspective, and movement.
- Desert Landscape & Storytelling: Taking the creative process outside the water into the desert — working with light, space, sound, and the body as active creative elements.
- Sound & Editing: Learning how separate images speak to each other, how time changes a story, and how a collection of moments becomes a finished work.
The other half becomes a residency. After exploring these practices, participants will have the time and support to create their own films. They will work individually and collectively, experiment, and shape their material into finished works. The teachers remain on-site not as directors, but in service of the participants' creative process — offering guidance, feedback, and support.
The goal is to give participants enough knowledge and confidence to find their own language and create something unique. Why seven teachers? Because we don’t believe there is one right way to create. Bringing these diverse perspectives together gives participants a rich palette of tools rather than a single formula.
Why Are We Crowdfunding?
I want Blue Motion to be a space where participation is not limited only to those who can afford it. We are raising €10,000 to make this vision a reality and ensure full transparency.
Your support will directly fund three essential pillars of the project:
- Scholarships for Emerging Artists - Helping talented participants join the residency regardless of their financial circumstances, ensuring money is never a barrier to artistic growth.
- Bringing Together Seven International Teachers - Covering the real costs of their travel, accommodation, and participation so they can share their expertise, methods, and time with the group.
- Creating the Conditions for Creation - Securing the right spaces, water environments, locations, and practical support to allow participants to learn safely, experiment freely, and focus entirely on their work.
During these 21 days participants will experience:
• Around 7 deep water sessions (requiring specialised freediving equipment with a rope — one set for every 3 participants)
• 7–15 shallow water sessions in the only warm pool in Dahab
• Approximately 30 land classes in a professional dance studio
• 7–9 residency days dedicated to creating their own films, fully supported by facilitators, with continuous access to the dance studio, warm pool and freediving equipment
• Trips to the desert and unique cinematic locations around Sinai
The studio, warm pool and equipment remain available the entire time — not only during classes, but also throughout the residency days.
Your contribution makes a real difference:
• €10–50 - Helps cover small but important costs (materials, equipment maintenance, local transport, or part of a studio/pool session)
• €50–150 - Supports one land class or a meaningful part of a water session
• €200–300 - A solid contribution toward a scholarship or a facilitator’s travel
• €500–1,000 - Covers the flight ticket of one international facilitator
• €1,500–2,000 - Fully funds one scholarship for an emerging artist (so they can join for €1,000–1,500 instead of the full €3,000)
• €3,000+ Covers the complete cost of one facilitator or provides a full scholarship + extra support for the group
Every amount matters.
Even smaller contributions add up and help create the conditions for artists to learn, experiment and make their films. Larger gifts allow us to confirm scholarships and bring teachers faster.
Why This Matters
I believe that when we change the way we move through the world, we can change the way we see it.
Water teaches us about movement; the desert teaches us about space and presence; the camera teaches us to look; improvisation teaches us to trust the present moment.
When these elements come together, unexpected things happen. This is a dream I have been carrying for a long time, and I am committed to sharing regular updates and progress reports with our community throughout the journey.
Help Make It Possible
You don’t have to be a filmmaker, a dancer, or a freediver to be part of this. If this vision speaks to you, you can support Blue Motion with a donation of any size. Your contribution helps give an emerging artist a place in the residency, brings an expert across the world, and makes this creative experiment possible.
And if you cannot contribute financially, sharing this campaign with someone who might connect with the idea is an equally valuable way to help.
Thank you for believing that new ways of creating are worth making space for, and for helping us bring Blue Motion to life.
We would love to acknowledge the people who help Blue Motion happen. Supporters who wish to be named may be included on our online Thank You page.
