What started as strep throat turned into a fight for breath- and life.

A simple trip to the doctor on January 19 for what we thought was strep throat changed everything. Instead, the diagnosis was pneumonia.

The infection didn’t stop there; it kept spreading deeper into the lungs, making it impossible to breathe, eat, or even drink without help.

Things escalated quickly. Doctors made the decision to perform thoracic surgery to remove the infection from the lungs. The surgery was necessary and lifesaving, but the recovery has been long and unpredictable. Even after the infection was removed, fevers have continued, and healing has taken longer than expected.

Right now, I’m still in the hospital, stable but unable to breathe fully on my own yet. My mom is here with me, and while that support means everything, the reality is heavy. I’ve been here ever since, missing work entirely, with no income coming in while medical bills and everyday expenses continue to stack up.

The good news is that the doctors are hopeful. We’re being reassured that things will be okay, and that with more time and a lot of patience— recovery is coming. But getting through this moment is incredibly hard.
