After being accepted to begin my PhD in October 2026, I am now raising funds to help turn this long-held goal into reality.
This opportunity marks a turning point in my life after many years of work in the arts, and after overcoming a year of significant personal challenges.
With your support, I hope to begin this journey with strength, focus, and the means to carry this work forward.
The total cost of beginning my PhD — including tuition and visa expenses — is approximately £72,000 over three years. This campaign represents the first step in reaching that goal, and every contribution will help me move closer to starting my studies in October 2026.
What My PhD Is About
My PhD explores how visual artists and writers can work together through the ancient practice of ekphrasis — the literary description of works of art. By bringing artists and writers into collaboration, this research seeks to redefine ekphrasis as a contemporary creative practice, capable of shaping how art is written about and understood within the fields of art history, art criticism, and art theory. My ambition is to open new possibilities for how art is shaped through writing and more widely shared within contemporary culture.
This research builds on more than twenty years of work in the arts as an artist, curator, educator, and arts director. The PhD represents the next step in a long-standing commitment to creating meaningful connections between artists and writers, and visual and literary culture.
Why I Am Raising Funds
The cost of pursuing a PhD as an international student in the United Kingdom is significant, and at present I am unable to fully cover these expenses on my own. I am actively applying for scholarships, grants, and teaching opportunities, and I plan to work while studying to support my daily living costs.
This campaign focuses on the initial and essential costs required to begin my studies.
These costs include:
• Student Visa (one-time cost): approximately £3,000
• International Student Tuition Fees: £23,000 per year (for three years)
Total initial funding goal: approximately £72,000

Even sharing this campaign with others can make a meaningful difference.
A Personal Note

After a difficult period of personal health challenges in the past year, being accepted into this programme represents not only a professional milestone, but a deeply personal one.
I am committed to seeing this journey through.
With your support, I will be able to begin this next chapter with the stability and resources needed to succeed.
