My daughter Kai is graduating from high school in May—a milestone that means the world to both of us. Kai has ADHD and is on the spectrum, and she’s worked incredibly hard to reach this moment. I promised her I would be there to see her walk across the stage in La Crosse, WI, but right now, I’m living in Las Vegas, NV and facing some tough financial times. Like many in tech, I’ve been on unemployment, which is ending soon, and while I’ve started driving Lyft, it’s just enough to get by, not enough to save for this important trip.
Being there for Kai isn’t just about attending a ceremony. For her, my presence means stability in a stressful moment—big crowds and transitions can be overwhelming, and knowing I’m there helps ease her anxiety. It’s also about validating her effort; she’s overcome so much to get here. For me, it’s about keeping a promise and creating a memory that will last a lifetime. Missing this would stay with me far longer than the discomfort of asking for help.
The funds raised will go directly toward basic coach airfare for myself and my wife to Minneapolis, a low-cost car rental, gas, food, and a modest graduation meal. Hotel prices in La Crosse are high due to graduation season, so we plan to stay in Rochester, MN to keep costs down. I’ve done everything I can to make this trip as practical as possible, but I need a little help to close the gap. Your support will help me keep my promise to Kai and show up for one of the most important days of her life. Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for being part of something that means so much to us. I will never forget it.
