Help me be the real Bionic Biker Chick

Donation protected
I was born missing my left arm below the elbow. Since the age of 9 months I've worn various types of  contraptions/prosthetic arms, from the hideous arms with the pull cord hook with straps around my right shoulder that left me with physical scars, to the extremely heavy myo-electric arm, that I have worn for a number of years ( I was the first recipient on NHS) but due to degeneration in my left shoulder & rheumatoid arthritis, I wear a simple cosmetic, life-like arm that basically does nothing other than prop things up, steady the handlebars on my bike (without wrist rotation) and makes It really difficult to do everyday tasks, it holds me back and makes me self conscious (you wouldn’t believe it but it does massively) I'm at an age now where I embrace and celebrate my difference, my disability has made me the person that I am. But I want to be able to do the little things that most people take for granted... To hold a mug of coffee at the same time as opening a door without getting burnt, open a packet of crisps not using my teeth, tie shoe laces instead of tucking them into my shoe and to be able to actually slice a tomato or peel a potato without it  rolling onto the floor!! (the bane of my life). Throughout my life I've strived to be independent and find my own way of doing things, and the phrase 'you can’t do that' has always inspired me to work harder and change that can’t into ‘watch me’!!. I’ve always pushed myself to do what everyone else can and more, you’ll never hear me complain, but my ‘good’ hand is now taking the impact, after being assaulted ten years ago and having my thumb tendon ruptured resulting in 8 plastic surgeries including tendon transfer, physiotherapy and nearly losing my only arm to CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome) I need to take the pressure off my only hand. In my spare time I ride my motorcycle that I’ve recently passed in September 2020 on a manual motorbike, although three years ago I passed my test on a 750cc DCT auto bike but felt I’d cheated myself so I put myself back through my training and test, this was a task as I had to have an extended test ( I didn’t want this as the test is still the same for everyone, but offers more time apparently for ‘paperwork’) I feel total freedom on my bike and no one looks at me differently ( I’d like to say that’s due to going fast but I don’t) I have had to get a bike, get it adapted and find a school to help with my training, SL Motorcycle Training in Barking & Art Rider Training in Basildon were great during training and test!! When I’m off the bike I'm back to struggling with things like zips, boots, gloves!! . My late Mother made me the strong independent woman I am today, she founded Reach.org.uk association with others in 1978 for children and parents like me, this is still running today! So, I've decided to start my Bionic arm journey with to raise funds to get a functional arm. I might even take up track racing one day!! The prospect of wearing a prosthetic arm with moving fingers that won’t cause anymore damage to my shoulders, spine, neck only hand, fills me with such joy, anticipation & excitement! Unfortunately these arms aren’t available on the NHS and I need to raise at least £10,000 initially for the arm and a further £3000 to cover the cost of the extended warranty and travel from Essex to Bristol for fittings over the next 3 years. Mentoring and empowering others has always been a huge part of my life, I’ve modelled, danced and performed in many theatre productions and a bionic arm will help me immensely. I would also like to use it to spread disability awareness in schools, hospitals to show that technology can be used to change people's lives. Thank you SO much for helping me become the real bionic biker chick and lead a normal life using using two hands that many take for granted.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
