Hello, my name is Judy, and I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult times my family has ever faced.

My mom, Sue, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer over the holidays. Although we still do not know the official stage, we do have a good understanding of her treatment plan. My mom is going to need major treatment — chemotherapy first, followed by surgery and then radiation.

I currently live in Ontario, while my parents are in British Columbia. Being so far away while my mom begins this journey has been incredibly painful. All I want is to be there with her — to support her emotionally, help with day-to-day needs, and make sure she gets safely to and from her medical appointments. My mom does not drive, which means she relies on others for transportation throughout her treatments. This will be especially challenging, as we know radiation will need to be done in Kelowna, which is a 4.5-hour drive from their home.

My parents are not financially well-off, and cancer brings with it many unexpected expenses. Travel, accommodations, transportation, and everyday living costs add up quickly. I want to be present for my mom during her treatment, but I can’t do that and manage all of the financial responsibilities on my own — which is why I’m asking for support. Any help makes it possible for me to be there for her when it matters most.

The funds raised will go toward:

Travel costs so I can be with my mom during her treatments

Accommodation expenses while supporting her through chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation

Transportation to and from medical appointments

Ongoing living and care-related expenses during this time

Being present for my mom during this fight is something I will never regret, but I cannot do it without support. Any contribution, no matter the amount, truly makes a difference and helps relieve financial stress so I can focus on being there for her when she needs me most.
