I am going on five years of living with long covid, and it has changed every part of my life. For the first year, I was on disability, but now I work full time despite significant debilitation. Many of my medications are not covered, and the cost of my care is astronomical. For example, a single session of OT/PT has a high copay for tier 1 in-network, and I had to go once a week for years. I have had to buy many disability tools and appliances just to get by. There are days where I skip meals to save money, and I have cashed out my retirement, but it’s still not enough. I am so close to filing for bankruptcy. Because I have post exertional malaise, I can’t pick up shifts to make extra money. When I am flared up, I often have to use FMLA, and much of that is not paid or I lose my PTO. I don’t need OT/PT anymore, but I have so many plans for medical bills I’m paying over time. I have truly done everything I can—downsized my apartment, canceled so many things, and haven’t been on vacation in almost three years. My long covid is severe, and I have POTS, dysautonomia, post exertional malaise, and other complications because of it.
My total debt from long covid is overwhelming, and I am at risk of bankruptcy if I can't raise enough to cover the most urgent bills. The amount I am asking for is the minimum I need to avoid bankruptcy, but anything raised above that will help with other urgent expenses, like ongoing medical treatments, hair loss treatments, and medications that aren’t covered by insurance. I have done everything I can to manage, but I am at a breaking point.
If you are able, please donate to my fundraiser or share it with others. Your support is crucial to help me avoid bankruptcy, and anything above my minimum need will go toward other urgent medical and living expenses. Thank you for reading and for any help you can offer.
