Help me attend Lisbon WebSummit 2025!

Hi everyone! My name is Elsie Kyei-Gyamfi and I’m currently studying History and Politics at the University of Warwick. I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to attend the Lisbon WebSummit this November with the support of the Amos Bursary — but I need your help to make it happen!

As a person with interests in law, technology and media, I think this experience would be invaluable for my personal and career development. With a background in humanities and social sciences, I’m always looking for ways to expand my skill set. As an alumnus of the Creative Mentor Network, I’ve been able to create, produce, and host a radio show on pop culture and advice for young people over the past year alongside my studies. This has given me skills in research, presenting, and collaboration, and deepened my passion for broadcast journalism. As I develop my show into an interview-based format for Black [untitled], a society centring Black creativity in the coming academic year, the opportunity to go to the WebSummit presents the perfect platform to interact with industry experts and get insights into the news, media and marketing space.

In an ever-changing world, I’ve consistently showed a commitment to asking questions and exploring my options. For instance, I was fortunate enough to intern at A&O Shearman as a part of their Black Student Lawyer Programme this summer, where I was introduced to the growing aid of AI tools in lawyers’ daily work. I learned a lot about the utility of AI in simplifying tasks, but also its limitations in providing quality service for clients often enough to be fully trusted. This experience fostered my interest in the tension between AI and traditional work, and so I am excited to hear from speakers from around the world discussing the ethics of its use in their respective fields.

WebSummit is the largest tech conference in the world, and so I feel that it is a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge and inspiration from those already ahead of me in their careers as I know making connections is a key part of career development. Your donations will go directly toward covering my travel and living costs in Lisbon, allowing me to focus fully on making the most of the conference. As a Powerlist magazine Future Leader for 2025/2026, I feel that I have the skills to excel in my professional life, and so this experience will help me refine my approach, making it easier to target my goals and achieve them. I want to be more innovative, whether that be in my university work or my creative endeavours. I appreciate you for reading my story and I hope that you will consider supporting me, whether that be monetarily or through spreading the word. Thank you, and I can’t wait to share what I learn with my community when I return.
