Help Me And My Little Brother Rebuild After Losing Our Mom

Hello everyone my name is Nikena and I never thought I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this, but life has put me in a situation I realize I can’t handle alone .

On March 12, 2025 my mother Nina Malissia Abson passed away suddenly due to chronic health issues. My 15-year-old autistic brother and I were the ones who found her, and it has been absolutely horrific .On top of grieving such a traumatic loss, we are now left with an overwhelming financial and housing crisis.

This isn’t the first major loss we’ve faced unfortunately …

In 2018, my older brother, Andrew , passed away, and in 2021, we lost our grandmother. Now, losing our mom as well… it feels like loss after loss with barely any time to recover. The cover photo I am sharing is actually of my mother and my older brother—both of whom are now gone. I can’t even put into words how painful it is to process all of this .

To make things even harder, I am currently not working because before this tragedy even happened, I was already struggling with serious health issues.

I had to leave my job to focus on recovering, and I was in no position to take on financial responsibility or become the primary caregiver to my little brother overnight. I don’t have my own foundation right now, and with no savings or stable income, I have no idea how I’m going to get us through this.

On top of all of this, we just found out that my mom had not been paying rent, and we are now facing $3,000 in back rent for an apartment we don’t even feel safe returning to, since that is where she passed. She also had no life insurance, no savings, and no will, leaving us to handle all funeral expenses, bills, and basic survival costs alone.

I have suddenly become my little brother’s primary caregiver. As a 15-year-old with autism, he requires specialized care, schooling, and stability which are things I am doing my best to provide, but I can’t do it alone.

I am asking for help because we are in an emergency. Every dollar donated will go toward

Securing stable housing so we are not forced to return to the apartment where our mother passed.

Covering any additional funeral & cremation costs

Providing for my little brother’s needs, including his education, medical care, and daily essentials.

Helping us rebuild our lives after this unimaginable loss.
