I had a stroke at age 41. Now I need a medical alert dog to help me navigate the crippling symptoms that affect my day-to-day life. Please consider giving so that I can learn to live this new normal with Sam by my side. Read our story below.

Hi, my name is Elizabeth. I had my first stroke at age 41. Due to lack of oxygen to my brain during the stroke, I suffered brain damage. The brain damage led to a seizure, daily migraines, severe fatigue, dizziness, vision changes, and a slew of other symptoms affecting quality of life.
My life After Stroke has been completely different, and it's unclear if it will ever be the same again. Having a service dog to help me navigate the challenges of life After Stroke would provide an enormous amount of relief to both me and my loved ones, in both big and small ways. For example, a service dog would be able to call 911 in the event that I become incapacitated due to a seizure or stroke, and would also be able to steady me when I become dizzy. A service dog, in short, would be invaluable.
The cost is steep, however, totaling approximately $30,000 for a fully-trained and certified dog. You can read more about medical alert service dogs at Alaska Dog Works, where I am getting my service dog.
My service dog is a Labrador Retriever named Sam. He is brave and playful and so sweet. I love him already. His training will take two years. In November 2025, he graduated puppy obedience training. He also went on his very first public access outing. He will graduate service training August 2027.
When Sam is trained, he will help me navigate the symptoms of stroke's vicious aftermath. I would be forever grateful for any help you can give. God bless.
