Hello! My name is Justine, and I am a current undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University studying medical anthropology. Before going to college, it was my dream to study abroad. Whether it be my obsession with Harry Potter or, as I get older, Harry Styles, I have long been fascinated with the UK. After a lengthy application process, I have been granted admission into Pembroke College of Cambridge University for the Fall 2022 semester. As an international visiting student, I will be given a chance to live and study amongst the greater population of Cambridge University, an opportunity like no other.
What threatens this dream is the financial costs affiliated with studying abroad. Unfortunately, the cost of attendance at Cambridge exceeds the cost of attendance at my home university, and there is a difference that my family must undertake. Back home in New York, my dad and brother were recently involved in a car accident. The incident has greatly impacted our financial stability.
With these study abroad plans, a 3-hour drive from New York to Baltimore in case of an emergency is now a long flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Given the rise in gas prices, such inflated flight costs were not expected when I was applying for study abroad. With this in mind, an emergency ticket fund, in addition to a fund to use while abroad is necessary.
Any donation will help alleviate this burden and help to make my study abroad dream come true!
