Hello everyone,

My name is Guillermo,

I have decided to make this GoFundMe because for the past year, I have been living with chronic lower back pain, severe nerve-related numbness and compression caused by disc injuries in my lower back that left me without walking for several weeks last year (April 2025).

My back injury has slowly worsened and begun affecting not only my physical health, but also my mental health and financial stability. These symptoms affect me every single day, from the moment I wake up until I go to bed. The repetitiveness of this has started to affect my mental health, my overall health, my ability to dance and perform, and my quality of life.
Physios and exterior ways to relieve pain to continue working and performing through the pain have been constant. I've spent so much money on physio (€90 per session), deep tissue massages (€70 per session), dry needling (€50–70 per session), and other treatments to manage the pain and support recovery. In the past month alone €300 I've paid to try to reduce the tightness around the bulge, the pain and numbness, but sadly I've needed to stop because I could no longer afford them, which also has regressed my progress while also losing work because of the injury, or worsening for needing to keep working.

The goal of this GoFundMe is to be able to cover a treatment called PLDD which will reduce the bulging that's pressing my nerves, which alone costs around €4,500. With rehabilitation and everything that comes with recovery, the total costs could reach around €14,000, but any amount raised will be an incredible help.

I have borrowed money from friends to get the emergency procedure immediately which I need to pay back as soon as possible.

This amount is intended to help cover the PLDD procedure, rehabilitation, medications, medical appointments, the cost of rebooking flights due to the sudden need for treatment, and the loss of income while I recover.
Recovery is expected to take around 6–12 weeks, but because I also have EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), it may take longer.
My hope is to reduce some of the pain and numbness I live with every day and be able to continue working, performing, and dancing at the level this requires without making things worse.

Here are all the Expenses Breakdown (Estimated Cost):

  • PLDD Procedure: €4,500
  • Travel and flight changes: €650 - €1300
  • Medical appointments and medications: €500
  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation: €3,000 (6-8 months)
  • Living expenses during recovery: €2,000 (4-5 months)
  • Lost income from Canceling Performances/Jobs: €3,000 (4-5 months)
  • For a total of around: €14,000

This is a fundraising goal rather than an exact medical bill. The procedure itself costs approximately €4,000, but the total fundraising goal is to be able to afford rehabilitation, medications, appointments with the doctors, follow-up care, additional travel costs caused by treatment abroad, and for some of the loss of income during my recovery.

Any amount raised, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful and big difference and help reduce the financial pressure and stress while I focus on recovering and healing my lower back.

Thank you so much for your time, I appreciate it so so much, from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story.

I only want to feel a little bit normal again with my body, and be able to work without pain and numbness.

Guillermo x

Additional Information:

My journey with the chronic back pain, bulging and severe nerve compression.

I am a professional dancer, pole dancer and performer. Dance is not only my job, but the thing I love the most doing and the career I have spent all my life building.

Over the last year, I have been living with increasing back pain, nerve symptoms, and physical limitations caused by spinal disc injuries in my lower back.

In April 2025, I suffered a serious disc injury that left me unable to walk properly for several weeks. Through physiotherapy, exercise, strength training, and a lot of determination, I slowly regained my mobility. However, despite months of rehabilitation, the underlying problem never fully resolved.

What began as pain and numbness on one side gradually became more widespread. Over the last few months, I developed constant numbness that now extends from my lower back into my glutes, legs, and calves on both sides.
The numbness is present every day.
Simple activities such as sitting, standing still, travelling, and bending forward can significantly increase my symptoms.

Living with constant pain and nerve irritation has affected not only my physical health, but also my mental wellbeing and ability to work.
As someone whose career depends on movement, teaching, performing, and dancing, this has been incredibly difficult.
While travelling in Indonesia, my symptoms became severe enough that I decided to seek a second opinion from a spine specialist.
After getting the new MRI and new assessment, I was diagnosed with:

Degenerative disc disease at L4-L5 and L5-S1.
Disc bulging and protrusion affecting the lower lumbar spine.
Moderate facet arthrosis
Ligamentum flavum hypertrophy.
Nerve irritation and stenosis affecting the S1 nerve root.

Getting these results made it more clear to me the constant pain, numbness, and physical limitations I have been experiencing.

I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)/hypermobility, a connective tissue disorder that can make recovery and rehabilitation more challenging and much longer.
After reviewing my MRI and symptoms, the specialist recommended PLDD (Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression) as the next step in treatment. PLDD is a minimally invasive procedure designed to reduce pressure from the affected discs and potentially relieve nerve compression.

After more than a year of physiotherapy, rehabilitation, medication, strength training, and other conservative treatments, this has become the most appropriate next step available to me.

My hope is simple:
To reduce the constant nerve symptoms, improve my quality of life, and give myself the best possible chance of continuing what I love doing, my job and performing.

Thank you so much for your time, I appreciate it so much!
If you can share this around, I would be so grateful! Thank you again x
