I've tried this before, years ago.. I hated it and didn't really raise anything.
I've always been a proud person that worked hard, till I no longer could.
Around 2017 is when things started to go wrong to the point I could no longer manage work. In the first two years it was an uphill battle to get diagnosed, but I fought for it.
Fibromyalgia
ME
Spinal stenosis
The last saw me getting emergency surgery on my spine in 2022 as I developed cauda equina syndrome which would have left me paralysed and then killed me.
As the years have gone by, the ME and spinal issues have only progressed. I now receive 5 hours of care a day from social services as I'm not really capable of much anymore.
Since about half way through 2017, I've been incapable of leaving the house alone, leaving me house bound unless someone can take me out. I'm lucky if I leave the house twice a month, and even then it's just usually from building to building as I'm not capable of walking much.
Under the NHS rules, I'm not entitled to an electric wheelchair as I can till manage to walk in my house (from my bed to bathroom, and bed to kitchen where there's a seat).
I can't afford to get something suitable under the motability scheme as the money they would take off me would leave me with no money to go anywhere.
So I've effectively spent 90% of the last 8 years, being stuck in my room.
Pre 2017 me was a hugely active person. I worked 40 to 60 hour week at a demanding job and when I wasn't at work I'd be out with friends, my partner, or out with my dogs going on adventures.
I've always loved nature and green spaces. It's been incredibly depressing having so much taken away from me, just watching life pass me by. Time goes so quickly.
I don't want to look back on my life when my issues have progressed to the point I cant leave my bed anymore, and wish I'd tried more to achieve this.
Can you help me raise funds for an all terrain wheelchair? Even just sharing would help. If I could get this out to 2000 people and they all donated a pound, I'd be given a new lease of life.
If I don't make my goal, I'll see if it's possible to refund the money or give it to a charity.
