My medical challenges began on February 14, 2025. I nearly died from Volvulus, a twisting of the intestines. It reoccured three weeks later in March. A third emergency surgery in late March was a result of air getting completely trapped in my stomach and I was unable to breath on my own. In October, my small intestine twisted itself, and I nearly died from that.
Since then, I have had major bowel obstructions in November and December. In late January, they inserted a Gastrojejunostomy Tube due to an SMA obstruction. In the 2.5 months I had it, I was unable to tolerate formula feed and a debilitating chronic pain developed from it. In that time, the surgeons told me I had to wait 8 months. Desperate. I attempted to find a Hospital that would remove it.
After failing to find one, I invoked in-home Hospice, which led to my PCP influencing the surgery team to remove it.
During this time, I had a PICC line to get TPN. When I finally got it for home, I developed a massive blood clot in my right arm. The PICC line had to be removed, and I lost access to TPN.
On May 8, 2026, I developed another major bowel obstruction. This time, the colorectal's request for GJ tube placement was rejected. My colorectal surgeon has concluded that there is nothing more he can do beyond treating the acute pain and condition. He advised that moving forward, I need to seek a more specialized and constant care if I am to have a future.
The last GoFundMe was a solid beginning to pay off medical bills and other expenses. Now, it's more likely that I will not only have to be under the care of a Hospital and specialists that isn't covered by my insurance, but I will either have to hire a nurse everyday at home or live in a long-term care facility.
I am giving this all I have in order to choose to live. While in-home hospice remains an option, the only course to fight for my life is going to inevitably cost money.
I appreciate any support as I continue to pursue a life that is pain-free and to live a normal life.
