Last year, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) after trying to find out reasons for my strong flashbacks, which can have a tendency to derail me. My psychiatrist recommended EMDR therapy, a powerful treatment for trauma, but despite trying every NHS route — even through major mental health charities — I’ve been unable to access any free services in Bristol.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy. It involves using side to side eye movements combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format. It helps you process the negative images, emotions, beliefs and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck.

On top of CPTSD, I live with several other chronic health conditions including Multiple Sclerosis and Crohn’s disease, which limit my ability to work. I'm currently only able to work part-time, and I’m also in the middle of a long, stressful battle to receive PIP benefits — with no support coming in yet.

I’ve found a therapist offering EMDR at around £60 per session, and I’ve been told I’ll likely need 15–20 sessions to properly address the trauma and debilitating flashbacks I experience. This therapy could be life-changing and finally help me move forward.
