Power Hawks Robotics is a For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition (FRC) team based out of South River High School in Edgewater, Maryland. We are funded by a certified Public Charity 501(c)3 non-profit. Founded in 2003, the Power Hawks have earned a reputation not just for their work on the competitive field, but for their work in the community as well. We reach out to bring science and engineering knowledge to students in the elementary, middle and high school levels in central Maryland. Maryland students from undeserved communities get the opportunity to learn engineering skills in a hands-on way, whether it’s in robotics summer camps or as members of teams started at their schools with Power Hawks financial help and mentoring. We are also stewards of our local environment. The Chesapeake Bay is in our backyards, so our students partner with local organizations on restoration and clean-up efforts. Our goal is to change students' lives, and we hear stories that make us very proud! Power Hawks have made a difference in Maryland for almost 25 years!

At our last qualifier event, we won the FIRST Impact award. This award is the most prestigious award available in the program, even more prestigious than winning the event! This award automatically qualified us for the FRC Chesapeake District Championship. Traveling to Districts would be an out-of-state trip for our team. Due to a funding mix-up with our school system we cannot currently afford to fund this event. Because 80% of our team is part of an undeserved minority group most of our students can not afford to pay out of pocket for travel expenses. We are currently less than two weeks away from the District Championship (4/9-4/12). This means we are quickly losing time to pay off registration fees (due Thursday, 4/2) and hotel rooms for the team. Without external support, these dedicated competitors may be forced to miss the opportunity they have worked all season to earn.

Power Hawks is proud of our history and excited for our future. *If for any reason we cannot attend the District Championships or we receive excess funds, any funds raised will be used toward our robotics program for things such as: Facilitating community outreach, materials or supplies for robot manufacturing/maintenance, and/or supporting individual students with special financial burdens.
