Help McKenzie and Alex Secure Their New Home!

Hello all! My name is McKenzie Slack, I’m 24, and my fiancée Alex, my roommate and I were told at the beginning of the month by our landlord that he would not be renewing our lease and that we had 30 days to vacate the apartment and find other living arrangements. We were asked to move simply so he can make “repairs” to the apartment, even though we’ve been trying to schedule a time for him to come over to renew our lease for months. He made it seem like he wanted to continue renting to us, though he never ended up coming by with the papers. Needless to say, this news came as a complete surprise to us. After pleading with him and asking him if there was any possible way that he could work around us — we are not in a financially stable spot and have been struggling for a little while — all he replied with was “I’m sorry.” We’ve never once had a problem with him or with living here until now. We’ve communicated well with him, shown our gratitude to him, and planned to keep living here for as long as we could, as it had been going very well. The day after we received this news, I tried to take a day off from my job to figure some things out as well as take time to go out and get rental listings/visiting rental offices. I was not shown any compassion, was harshly let go, and told to pick up my last check the next day. I wasn’t in a great headspace after finding out this news.
Fortunately, we found ourselves lucky enough to land a house yesterday! We’ve already set a lease start date, and are awaiting the next steps in paperwork. I’ve also gotten a new job that I’m already moving up in, my fiancée got a better, higher paying position, and things are starting to look pretty okay for the first time in a while. However, we are now in a time crunch with having to move and start our new lease in a week and a half, and our rent is pretty high; we were originally hoping to find someplace with a bit cheaper rent, but there simply weren’t a lot of viable options for us cheaper than what we got.
With the unexpected news, we didn’t have much saved, as we just recently got these new jobs and promotions. Before this, we’d been living paycheck to paycheck as we bounced between jobs, having to drop out of school to focus on finances. Now, we are feeling good about the money we will be making, but the deposit, first month’s rent, and taking over utilities are all still significant hurdles that we have to worry about!
I don’t expect everyone who sees this to donate as we are ALL struggling, especially in the housing factor. And I know there are far better causes that deserve your money. But if you are able and feel inclined to help us as we move into our new home and this exciting new chapter in our life, please know we would be forever grateful to you! And even if all you can do is share, that means the world! This has been very scary as we weren’t sure what would happen up until yesterday. But I knew when this happened that it had to lead to something better. Thank you for even reading this far. You’re all so appreciated. Take care~
