Help MU Players put on their 2024-2025 Season!

Hello!
We are MU Players, a student-led theatre group at Manhattan University, based in The Bronx, NY. We are dedicated to fostering enthusiasm for theatre for everyone on Manhattan University’s campus, as well as supporting academic and intellectual growth through the various facets of theatre production. Every year, we put on two mainstage productions, an entirely student-run production, a one acts festival, cabarets, and more! As the only theatre group on our campus, we have the honor of being an outlet for students to express themselves – their emotions, their talents, their truths — in multiple different aspects of theatrical productions; whether it be through acting, set design, dramaturgy, directing, or costuming.
Just like any other performing arts group, we’ve had our share of hardships and difficulties in the past, but MU Players is still a place wherein many students find the opportunity to form friendships, create space for artistic expression, and even develop the skills to begin professional careers in the arts.
To keep MU Players a reality, however, we are asking for your help.
Due to financial constraints, our budget has been cut almost completely. This makes it nearly impossible to put on our typical season.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help fund our various productions and cover costs of set construction, props, costumes, scripts and royalties, sound, and lighting. Any and all help is deeply appreciated.
To quote a recent production, 9 to 5: The Musical, “[If] something in your life isn't sitting right, then fix it,” and we hope that with your help, we can do just that.
Best,
The Board

“Manhattan University Players has many opportunities for students to develop them creatively, professionally, and socially. The Arts is such an important aspect of a well rounded education. Players has helped me grow professionally by allowing me to use transferable skills that I can take into any job. While in the club, I was a part of the Board for 3 years. In this time, I was able to understand how to run and plan an organization. This position helped me learn different ways to problem-solve by fixing issues that would arise. Also, it helped me decide to further my studies in Educational Theatre. During my time with the club, I have created such strong friendships that have carried on beyond college. I was able to express myself and have fun with my friends while creating art. Everyone that I encountered in Players has been accepting and friendly. Players made my college experience so special.”

“While in Players, I was able to express my creativity and explore aspects of theatre that I’ve never been able to explore in the past. Players bettered me as a person, helped me gain experience that I can use in the professional world, and led me to lifelong friends. Through trial and error, I learned the best techniques when it came to mastering technical elements of the theatre, which assisted me in starting my own production company. Through my company and my experience in Players, I will continue to share my knowledge and always foster a welcoming environment in any theatre space.”

“Being part of Players in college gave me this really fun creative outlet, where I got to learn new skills (like using power tools!) and make really meaningful friendships. I wasn’t someone who wanted to act but there was still room for me and I couldn’t imagine college without it.”

“Players really gave me the chance to be vulnerable and try new things that I was afraid of. It brought out a confidence in myself I didn’t know I had when it came to performing and it also helped that I was supported and pushed along the way.”
