Mbilizi Kalombo is my friend and colleague, and he is facing a heartbreaking crisis. His wife, Mwanini Agnes, a 24-year-old mother of two young children, was recently exposed to food poisoning. Tragically, she aspirated her vomit and now suffers from pneumonia, hypoxia, and ARDS. Her condition is critical—she is at risk of permanent lung damage and even loss of life. Mbilizi and I have worked together for two years in Uganda's Nakivale Refugee Settlement, where he has always shown incredible dedication and integrity despite the many challenges he faces as a refugee.
Mwanini urgently needs life-saving medical treatment that is not available in Uganda. The only hope is to transport her to Rwanda, where she can receive the specialized care she needs. The funds raised will help cover the costs of medical treatment, transportation, accommodations, meals, and other essential needs for Mbilizi and his wife during this difficult journey. Mbilizi has carefully prepared a plan to ensure every dollar is used to give his wife the best possible chance at recovery and to keep their young family together. He has also confirmed with his local contacts at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that they will assist him to quickly get an emergency medical visa to travel from Uganda to Rwanda.
This young man is not just a friend but also a colleague. He has repeatedly demonstrated his passion for his community as well as his integrity while living and working in a very challenging environment. He never complains and always puts in 110% to whatever is asked of him. But right now, the only thing that matters is saving his wife. Any support will mean the world to him and more than you can ever imagine.
