Yep, that's Mazie's spine! But it will look much better in October!!!

Hi, my name is Casey Sellers and I am appealing to you because I am trying to relieve some of the financial burden for the upcoming surgery for Mazie Emerson. Mazie and my son have essentially been friends from the womb as her mother, Marie, and I met while we were both pregnant. I moved shortly after meeting but through happenstance, our kids ended up in the same daycare when they were 2 and the rest is history. We vacation together, celebrate holidays, and help each other out almost daily as we are both single moms.

Unfortunately Mazie has been diagnosed with severe double scoliosis (curvature of the spine in two places) and kyphosis (excessive outward curvature of the spine) and her doctors have attempted everything possible to help to straighten her back including braces and physical therapy. Despite their best efforts, her condition has worsened and she has to have spinal fusion surgery followed by an extensive recovery period.

Although Marie does have medical insurance, her out of pocket expenses for surgery alone will be extensive and the recovery period will also require assistance from friends and family to ensure that Mazie does not injure herself. That's why I'm here talking to you - I want to do everything possible to relieve at least some of the financial burden that Marie is going to be faced with. No one deserves to have to have this kind of expense hanging over their head just because they don't want their child to not be in pain anymore.
