Hi, my name is Mayumi, and I am a dancer with Hiva Kātoa. Dance has been a part of my life for nearly 9 years, and it has shaped who I am — not just as a performer, but as a person. Through Polynesian dance, I’ve learned discipline, confidence, teamwork, and how to stay connected to my culture. I’ve been given the opportunity to compete with my team at Tahiti Fête Hawai‘i 2026, a major international Polynesian dance competition. This event brings dancers together from all over, and performing there would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. Our Hiva Kātoa team is working hard to fundraise for costumes, but each dancer is responsible for covering their own travel and hotel costs, along with a competition fee. This fee helps cover group entry fees, gym practice rentals, instrument shipping, and guest vocalists’ travel. In addition to these costs, we are required to attend weekly group practices starting March 8th, and dancers must fully commit to be able to perform. I am ready to put in the work — I just need help making this opportunity possible. This trip means so much to me. Polynesian dance is not just a hobby; it is how I express myself and honor my culture. Competing at Tahiti Fête Hawai‘i would allow me to grow, represent my team, and create memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Any donation — big or small — helps me get one step closer to this dream. Thank you for supporting my journey, believing in me, and being part of this chapter in my life.
