My name is Maysa Barclay, and I am a third-year biology student currently attending New York University. I am writing to request financial support to help pay my tuition balance for my first semester so I can continue my studies.
I received acceptance into NYU a semester earlier than I had prepared to return to school, but I decided to enroll because I didn’t want to risk losing the opportunity. Despite changes to my initial plan, I have adjusted to the new academic environment and am doing well in my studies.
Before attending NYU, I earned my associate's degree on a full-ride scholarship at Harold Washington College. During my gap semester, I was employed full-time and working two jobs. This semester, I have maintained steady employment while also carrying a full course load, and I have recently qualified for work-study. I am dedicated to creating the future I want for myself by any means necessary, and my resilience has proven that I am a good investment.
This semester will be the largest expense of my undergraduate education, and I cannot register for classes until my balance is below $1,000. I submitted my financial aid application months ago, but delays from FAFSA and the school’s financial aid office have left me in a time-sensitive situation. I am prepared to cover future tuition costs: I now qualify for the Pell Grant as an independent student, and by building New York residency over the next 12 months, I’ll become eligible for additional grants and tuition support.
Your support at this time would allow me to continue my education and strive toward my goals.
