May Maharath has been a farmer her whole life, spending 15 years in Hawaii and the last 5 years growing crops in Waialua. Farming is not just her livelihood, but her passion and way of supporting her family and community. Recently, May and her husband faced unimaginable loss when the Kona low storm floods struck. The first weekend brought heavy losses, but the second storm was even more destructive, leaving them with no time to salvage anything. May stayed by her husband’s side, caring for him as he battles illness, until they were both forced to evacuate for their safety.
Now, May and her family are left with nothing. They lost all their belongings, their crops, and their source of income. While their car was spared, it still suffered significant water damage. With her husband’s medical needs and the pressure to rebuild, May is struggling to find a way forward. The funds raised will help cover immediate daily living expenses, support her husband’s care, and give May the chance to restart her farm and regain her independence.
May is deeply grateful for all the help and assistance she and her husband have received so far, but the road ahead feels overwhelming. She is reaching out to the community for support, hoping that together, we can help her family recover and rebuild. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in their journey to start over.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise and will directly benefit May Maharath and her bank information was added for her to withdraw directly.
