My name is Mayra McCarthy, and I’m reaching out during the most difficult time my family has ever faced.

My mother has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has spread to her spine. In a very short period of time, her condition has declined drastically. She is no longer able to walk, feed herself, or care for her basic needs. The strong, independent woman who raised me and helped raise my children is now completely dependent on others for everything.

She is 73 years old, a loving grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren, and a devoted mother to me, her only child. She has always been the heart of our family, giving everything she had to make sure we were cared for and never went without.

In addition to the cancer, she is also battling cirrhosis of the liver. She suffered a severe case of jaundice, which led her medical team to place a drain with a stent. She is now living with a bag that drains bile due to a bile duct obstruction. Watching her endure all of this has been incredibly painful.

We’ve been told that she may have six months or less left with us.

Along with the emotional pain, we are now facing overwhelming financial strain. The funds raised will go toward her hospital bills, ongoing medical needs, caregiving support, and, when the time comes, funeral expenses. Our goal is to make sure she is as comfortable and cared for as possible, surrounded by love and dignity in the time she has left.

I am asking for help to support her care and to ease the burden on our family so we can focus on being with her during this time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference.
