Earlier this year, Maylyn Lagdep became very ill back home. After months of doctor visits and waiting for referrals without clear answers, she and her husband, Joel Wegiseo, made the difficult decision to leave their four young children in Yap, Micronesia, and travel to Hawaiʻi for medical help.

Here in Hawaiʻi, doctors finally gave them an answer: advanced pancreatic cancer. Insurance has covered some of her care, but it hasn’t been an easy road. Maylyn has faced repeated infections and sepsis that have drained much of her strength. Right now, her doctors are doing everything they can to help her regain enough strength to travel home and be with her children.

Joel and Maylyn came on their own, using what little savings they had. Now, the costs of medical supplies and the trip back to Yap are more than they can handle. We’re asking for your support to help Maylyn return home to her kids. Every donation will go toward her care and the expenses needed to bring her home, where she longs to be with her family.

Planning has been difficult because of her repeated hospital stays, but if she is stable enough, they hope to leave around October 10–14.
